Philip Laurien was born in Buffalo, New York, and spent his childhood there. Although schooled as a community planner, his has also been a lifeguard, lumberjack, Luxembourg tour guide, lecturer, town manager, acting police chief, consultant, car restorer, builder, developer, and Innkeeper.
The interesting people he has known in twelve countries and half the United States now inform the characters in his stories.
In 2007, while passing through Barcelona Harbor, New York he was reminded of his summers at a nearby riding camp on the shores of
Chautauqua Lake, and the seed for a murder mystery was planted.

He currently resides in Ohio with his dog Sadie.
